Reproductive Rights

Reproductive Rights

Everyone deserves the freedom to make their own decisions about their bodies.

Access to comprehensive reproductive health care, which includes access to safe, legal, abortion, is vital for women to live full, healthy lives and plan their futures. The Trump-Pence administration has worked to restrict access to abortion, undermined birth control access by allowing virtually any employer to refuse to provide coverage for birth control based on a religious or moral objection, and tried to block people from getting care at Planned Parenthood health centers.

In addition, the new vacancy on the Supreme Court means that the constitutional right to safe, legal abortion is on the line.

Maternal health is also a central part of reproductive health. People deserve quality prenatal care, and the ability to give birth in a safe and welcoming environment without fear of preventable causes of maternal death. The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate in the developed world. In fact, the U.S. is the only developed country where the rate of women dying from pregnancy is not decreasing — but increasing. The maternal mortality rate among Black women is three to four times higher than that of White women. But the Trump-Pence administration is pushing policies that would make it worse, proposing a regulation that would scale back maternity coverage, in addition to pushing for cuts to maternity coverage.

We should be working towards a world where our bodies are our own, and women are able to access full reproductive care.

Nearly 9/10 women of reproductive age have used birth control at some point in their lives.

About 7/10 Americans believe Roe v. Wade should remain the law of the land.
